Episode 142: Kids Always Think Farts Are Funny (“Hearts in Atlantis”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 142: Kids Always Think Farts Are Funny (“Hearts in Atlantis”)

Hey, everyone! It’s Amity’s Patreon anniversary–you may recall that last year she selected “The Lost Room” for us to watch, and that one was an excellent recommendation, so we were pretty stoked to dive into this year’s rec, the movie version of Stephen King’s “Hearts in Atlantis”, starring Anthony Hopkins. We’ve established before that movies are a good adaptation form for King’s novellas, and this one is no exception–a movie was exactly the right length to allow for a faithful adaptation.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 141: What If Your Phone Ate You? (“Bandersnatch”)

Hey, everyone! It’s been a couple months since Black Mirror’s “Bandersnatch” was released on Netflix, and now that we’re out of Jannauary, we decided to dive in and see what it’s all about. (Spoiler: It’s not about your phone eating you.)

Episode 138: Bleh, bleh! (Outtakes, Vol. 10)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 138: Bleh, bleh! (Outtakes, Vol. 10)

Hey, everyone! James had a family emergency and was out of town on our normal recording night, so we couldn’t do a PodCon2 recap like we’d planned, but don’t worry, you still get to hear our lovely voices. Probably more of Erin’s voice than you’d want, as she has discovered that if she doesn’t have a script or a partner, she sounds like a robot. Or a smooth jazz/soft rock radio station DJ. Or a…vampire?

Episode 137: So Much Cardio (“Pitch Perfect 3”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 137: So Much Cardio (“Pitch Perfect 3”)

Hey, everyone! It’s JAnnauary Week 3, and we’re talking about the sequel to the sequel to James’s favorite movie. It is a bit of a wild ride, and as always, Anna is a delight. But if that’s not enough, watch it for Fat Amy. And if that’s not enough, watch it for Elizabeth Banks. And if that’s not enough, watch it for the mulleted country boys covering Elle King’s “Exes and Ohs”, and Ruby Rose singing The Cranberries.

Also, watch it for all the murder.

Episode 136: Sraey Evif Tsal Eht (“The Last Five Years”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 136: Sraey Evif Tsal Eht (“The Last Five Years”)

Hey, everyone! Sometimes a creator will decide to try something new, like starting at the end of a story and moving backward to the beginning. Sometimes they think, “Hmm, maybe that’s too unconventional, I should do it the normal way instead.” And sometimes they think, “Why not both?” And then cast Anna Kendrick in the movie.

Episode 135: Ben Franklin’s Bullets (“Rapture-Palooza”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 135: Ben Franklin’s Bullets (“Rapture-Palooza”)

Hey, everyone! A new year, a new month, a new theme…welcome to JAnnauary! It’s all Anna Kendrick, all the time! This week we’re talking about 2013’s “Rapture-Palooza”, which was a really weird but not unenjoyable movie. Erin talks a lot about Anna’s boobs, and once again shares how very little she knows about Christianity. James does not talk a lot about Anna’s boobs, because he is a gentleman.

Episode 134: Take Me Down to Spatula City! (“UHF”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 134: Take Me Down to Spatula City! (“UHF”)

Hey, everyone! Things get weird this week–Weird Al, this is! (That…was terrible and I apologize, I have taken cold meds and they are addling my brain.) Mike from Back to the Futurama brings you this week’s episode courtesy of Patreon. We spend a good deal of time discussing actors who are not actually in this movie, and in a lot of ways it isn’t a product of its time, but overall, it was a cute story and Weird Al surprised us with his ability to Leading Man!

Episode 131: THanksgiving 2, Week 5: Fakle Till You Makle (“Catch Me If You Can”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 131: THanksgiving 2, Week 5: Fakle Till You Makle (“Catch Me If You Can”)

Hey, everyone! It’s the final week of THanksgiving 2: Electric Hanksaloo, and we are bookending the month with the two longest, most serious, and at least one of us (the one writing this) (guess who it is!) would argue best movies of the five. We watched “Catch Me If You Can”, a movie all about a dude who faked his way through life so well that he managed to pass the bar exam and get hired as a doctor.

We also spend a good portion of this episode discussing Grey’s Anatomy (with spoilers up through Patrick Dempsey’s leaving), and what all being a librarian entails and whether we could fake our way through it. (We probably couldn’t.)

Episode 130: THanksgiving 2, Week 4: Pity Slickers (“The Money Pit”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 130: THanksgiving 2, Week 4: Pity Slickers (“The Money Pit”)

Hey, everyone! This week we rounded out our 80s Hanks Spectacular with “The Money Pit”, which is a really enjoyable if extremely simple movie about a couple and the super terrible house they bought.

It’s another short one, because frankly, this movie can be summed up in two sentences. Probably even one sentence. “Tom Hanks buys a super terrible house.” But it has some classic THanks bits and is overall just a really fun little comedic farce.

Episode 129: THanksgiving 2, Week 3: It’s a Tom Rom Com! (“Dragnet”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 129: THanksgiving 2, Week 3: It’s a Tom Rom Com! (“Dragnet”)

Hey, everyone!

Police detective Joe Friday was a stickler for the rules, a real square. Detective Pep Streebeck, was a rogue in a wrinkled shirt who drove too fast. Neither Joe nor Pep could see a world where they could possibly work together; but work together they must, for Pep was Joe’s new partner, and they had a case to solve…a case involving a crooked reverend, a goat-leggings-wearing cult, and the Virgin Connie Swale.

When things go south and Joe is unfairly relieved of his badge, it’s up to Pep to take what he’s learned from the straight-laced man he’s grown so fond of and solve the case — for both of them.

Can these two detectives get their happily ever after? Or will they be eaten by a giant snake?

Academy Award Nominee Dan Aykroyd and Academy Award Winner Tom Hanks star in this buddy-cop comedy that is basically a romcom, and we’re here to explain that statement.

Episode 128: THanksgiving 2, Week 2: It’s Just Fine. (“The ‘Burbs”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 128: THanksgiving 2, Week 2: It’s Just Fine. (“The ‘Burbs”)

Hey, everyone! It’s Week 2 of THanksgiving 2: Electric Hanksaloo, and this week’s movie, “The ‘Burbs”, was…fine. It’s just fine. It’s weird, and Corey Feldman is in it, and so is Carrie Fisher, and we suspect there is a reason you never hear about why either of them was in this movie and that reason is that this movie was weird and sort of…well, it was fine. It’s no “Big”, but it’s better than “Gettysburg”, so that’s something, right?

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 127: THanksgiving 2, Week 1: Hi Again, Caitlin! (“The Green Mile”)

Hey, everyone! Who here likes a nice clean segue? I hope you all do, because boy do we have one for you. We transition this week from All Hallows’ Steve into THanksgiving 2: Electric Hanksaloo (the jury is still out on which of us came up with that, but we both agree it is a bad name and we don’t know why we’re still using it), and we are joined once again by friend of the podcast and former guest Caitlin Kunkel to talk about The Green Mile, that unique piece of media that straddles the fence between Stephen King’s yard and Tom Hanks’s yard so beautifully.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 125: All Hallows’ Steve Week 3: All About Rips (“The Langoliers”)

Hey, everyone! This week Erin made (“made”) James read what is possibly her most favorite Stephen King book, “The Langoliers”–a book in which time travel is not what you might think, and a man sleeps in the back of a plane for absolutely no reason that we can figure out.

Stick around after the ending credits for the new trailer for Kids on Bikes!

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 121: Everead Day/Evereel Day (“Every Day” Book and Movie SPECIAL COMBO EPISODE!)

Hey, everyone! Thanks for your patience last week as we dealt with some technical difficulties.

This week we are doing a special two-episode combo episode, where we take what we were going to talk about last week (the book “Every Day” by David Levithan) and what we were going to talk about this week (the movie “Every Day”, based on the book by David Levithan) and also add in some special BONUS CONTENT (the book “Another Day” by–you guessed it–David Levithan, which is the sequel to “Every Day”) and mash them all together in a lovely discussion casserole.

Hey, everyone! This week is our final week of Auguest, and we are closing out the month with our first solo guest, the lovely and talented Raeanna from Mount Olympus University! We start out by learning about a thing we don’t know anything about, then move on to talk about a couple of movies James knows quite a bit about and Erin has only seen once before. Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 117: Hi, Matt and Chris! (“Airborne”)

Hey, everyone! We are back for another week of Auguest, and this time we are joined by Matt and Chris Yule of Finish It!, a completionist’s interactive fiction podcast. If you aren’t listening to their show, you really, really should be.

Bust out your Rollerblade-brand inline skates, because we are talking about 1993’s “Airborne”, starring a very young Seth Green and Jack Black. At the time of the recording, we thought you could only stream it on YouTube, but it turns out you can also stream it on Amazon…or just buy the DVD (with our affiliate link, there), because you will want to own this movie because it is very good.

Thank you to Matt and Chris Yule for letting us blatantly steal their on-air game idea, and to Matt for letting me use his theme music for it, which is one of my favorite jingles from Finish It!

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 116: Hi, Jen and Micah! (“Now and Then”)

Hey, everyone! Welcome to the first OFFICIAL episode of Auguest! This week we are joined by Jen and Micah from I Never Saw That to talk about 1995’s Now and Then, which is one of Erin’s favorite movies from her tween years. Hop on your bike, grab a pop, tape your boobs down (wait, what?), and make a pact with us that if you haven’t seen this movie, you will try to get your hands on a copy.

Episode 114: James and Erin Write a Movie (“Murder Beach”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 114: James and Erin Write a Movie (“Murder Beach”)

Hey, everyone! It’s “write a movie” time again, and thanks to our amazing friends and fans, we had so many suggestions we only had time to touch on a fraction of them. Highlights include:

Anna Kendrick punches a bus.

Tom Hanks shuts a door.

Denzel Washington is in “Speed”, but it’s not called “Speed”.

A kid has a kaleidoscope.

But ultimately, we decided to go with something fun and light. A good summer romp. A bunch of former child stars, some fishsticks…and murder.

Episode 113: Res-Erection (“Magic Mike XXL”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 113: Res-Erection (“Magic Mike XXL”)

Hey, everyone! This month we are just alllllll over the place. Outtakes, a guest episode, and now this. James got it into his head that we should watch “Magic Mike XXL” because he heard surprisingly good and insightful things about it, and Erin is always game to watch hot men dance.

If you’re coming to us from 2PodsADay, welcome! This July is…actually a really good buffet of what we do here at UFO. (Especially if you also include the episode dropping August 3, which we recorded in July.) So if juvenile dick humor and Erin just talking SO MUCH about how much she loves a certain So You Think You Can Dance alum isn’t your jam, come back next week, when we will be doing something completely different. (Well, mostly different. We cannot promise that dick jokes won’t make a return.)

Hey, everyone! This week we are joined by Bill from The Great Albums podcast, to chat about things we really like that we didn’t initially expect to like. Topics include music, books, music, TV, music, and of course music.

We recorded this one a little bit ago so we don’t mention the 2PodsADay campaign we are participating in this month, but you should go check out their Twitter and see if your new favorite podcast is waiting for you to discover it!

Episode 109: You Remind Me of the Babe (“Labyrinth”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 109: You Remind Me of the Babe (“Labyrinth”)

Hey, everyone! This week, we dance the magic dance, we brave the Bog of Eternal Stench, and one of us appreciates David Bowie’s tight, tight pants. That’s right, we’re talking about “Labyrinth”, the movie that made Erin and so many other children of the 80s want to send our younger siblings to live with goblins just so we could have a chance at forever with the Goblin King and his leggings.

The book/website/fan fiction Erin discusses having stumbled upon in high school turns out to be the novelization of the movie, and is available here (affiliate link), where you can see inside and read the first 30 or so pages and get all that good good backstory that the movie just didn’t think was even a little bit important.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 107: She’s a Hussy! (“Much Ado About Nothing”)

Hey, everyone! This week we sat down to watch 2012’s “Much Ado About Nothing”, directed by Joss Whedon. In this episode, we manage to avoid talking too much about the time we were in our high school’s production of it, but we do accidentally pull a “James and Erin Write an Adaptation”, during which we show that we know next to nothing about either business or Snapchat.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 104: Third or Nothing! (Puffs: Filmed Live Off Broadway)

Hey, everyone! What’s that, you say? Our audio quality this week sounds like we recorded in a van with the AC cranked because it’s hot AF (hi, Liz!) in Virginia right now? Well, dear listener, you are not wrong. We DID record in a van, and it IS hot AF in Virginia right now! We went to see “Puffs: Filmed Live Off Broadway” and y’all?

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 102: Stop! … It’s a Trap. (“Dave Made a Maze”)

Hey, everyone! This week we watched 2017’s “Dave Made a Maze“, a movie about Dave, who makes a maze fueled by…his imagination? Or something? It’s a very impressive maze, whatever is fueling it.

Also, we spend about 20 minutes talking about whether or not Erin should watch “Community”. (We fall on the side of “yes, she should”, so be on the lookout for the “Community” episode this summer.)

Episode 99: Viviseduction (“The Autopsy of Jane Doe”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 99: Viviseduction (“The Autopsy of Jane Doe”)

Hey, everyone! Happy Friday the 13th! During our Patreon live stream a few weeks ago, Ashkan (hi, Ashkan!) bumped up his monthly pledge and got to select an entertainment for us to consume (pretend I said that in a way that made sense in an actual language). He chose 2016’s “The Autopsy of Jane Doe”, and during our viewings of this film we learned a few things:

  1. If you feel like you’re maybe about to see someone whose face has been shot off appear on screen, you probably are;
  2. If your friend Chad tells you that the movie isn’t that scary but Stephen King says that it is, you should probably listen to the guy who writes horror novels for a living and NOT watch it alone in your bedroom at night, especially if you are Erin; and
  3. Anyone can play a corpse on an episode of SVU, but if you want to play a corpse in a full-length feature film about that corpse, you better get really good at yoga first.

All in all, we did enjoy the movie and we did manage to sleep without nightmares, although did we mention you see a guy who has had his face shot off? Because you super do.

Episode 98: Bats Bats! (“The Sandlot: Heading Home”)

Episode 98: Bats Bats! (“The Sandlot: Heading Home”)

Hey, everyone! Last week, we covered the 1993 classic The Sandlot. But did you know they made two sequels? We decided to skip The Sandlot 2 and go straight to The Sandlot: Heading Home, in which Luke Perry gets hit in the face with a baseball and travels back in time to his own childhood! It’s a sometimes-amusing look at what it means to be a friend, what it means to befriend a ghost, and what it means when your friends say there are bats in the basement.

Hey, everyone! Sometimes, we see a video on Facebook and it reminds us of a thing we like and then we decide we have to watch/read/etc. that thing and hey, as long as we’re both doing it, why not talk about it on the podcast?

And thus, this episode was born.

Episode 96: James and Erin Write a Movie (“The Breakfast Club 2: The Big Hunt”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 96: James and Erin Write a Movie (“The Breakfast Club 2: The Big Hunt”)

Hey, everyone! It’s been a while since we wrote a movie. Usually, we start with a title and work forward from there. This week, we start with characters and work…well, not exactly backward, but like, sideways and diagonally and up and down and basically in every direction we possibly can until what we are left with is a title and some characters who have jobs, and also just a whole bunch of cocaine. None of this should come as any surprise at all to anyone who has ever listened to an episode of this ridiculous podcast that we do.

Our apologies to one Mr. John Hughes, without whom this episode would not have been possible, so please don’t @ him. (Partly because he’s in the Great Beyond, so there’s no chance of him seeing it, so actually, you know what, @ him, not us.)

Apologies also to the Doctor Who franchise, because we took your really good thing and added American politics, thus making it dumb.

Episode 95: Vladdy Issues (“Camp”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 95: Vladdy Issues (“Camp”)

Hey, everyone! Last week, we watched the movie “Camp” (Amazon affiliate link), and we tried to tell you about it, but we couldn’t. Either because Bill the computer garbled the audio file, or because you weren’t listening, depending on which of us you ask. So this week, we try again. And we succeed! Yay!

Episode 93: Ferry Thrillers (Thrillers and Treasure Hunting)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 93: Ferry Thrillers (Thrillers and Treasure Hunting)

Hey, everyone! Remember that time John Green wrote a book about a boy and his crush searching for a lost object throughout time? No? Well, that’s because it hasn’t been written. YET. But boy, does James wish it existed. Meanwhile, Erin is over there, just reading every book she can get her hands on about British women on public transportation, witnessing or experiencing something bad. That book has definitely been written. Like, 15 times over at least, with probably a good 12 more to come this year. And she will read it every. single. time.

Episode 86: Unabashedly Casting Kendrick (“Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 86: Unabashedly Casting Kendrick (“Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel”)

Hey, everyone! Welcome to Week The Second of Time Travel Month, wherein we actually publish the episode we recorded for the week! We watched another random Amazon Prime find and this time it worked out for us. “Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel” is the story of three friends and their very nice English and Irish accents, traveling through time, meeting a woman who exists only to be a plot device-slash-set dressing. It will surprise absolutely no one that we both agree this movie could have been vastly improved by the casting of Anna Kendrick in the role of said plot device-slash-set dressing.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 85: Hashtag Time Travel (Outtakes Volume 6)

Hey, everyone! We had a plan for this week’s episode, but we evidently didn’t plan it very well, so we came up with a new plan, but that was a bad plan, so we decided that this is not the week for plans. As such, please enjoy a brief discussion of said failed plans, Erin’s latest obsessions in TV and mobile gaming, and a bunch of outtakes from the past few months!

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 83: Free Dylan! (“American Vandal”)

Hey, everyone! We’re still riding the high of PodCon, and also watched a lot of Netflix that weekend because of the cross-country flight, so we are here today to talk to you about that Netflix. After we spend half an hour talking about other Netflix. You know us.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 80: James and Erin Write a Movie (“A Tomedy of Errors”)

Hey, everyone!

From the Maniacs that Brought You the “Redo Year’s Steve” Franchise, Coming Summer 2020: “A Tomedy of Errors”, starring Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Tommy Lee Jones, Thomas Haden Church, Thomas F. Wilson, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and Anna Kendrick, and with music by Tom Petty.

We’d say we’re sorry for this one, but we’re too busy writing our Oscar acceptance speeches.

Episode 78: Tom Rom Coms (“Joe vs. the Volcano”, “Sleepless in Seattle”, “You’ve Got Mail”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 78: Tom Rom Coms (“Joe vs. the Volcano”, “Sleepless in Seattle”, “You’ve Got Mail”)

Hey, everyone! This week we delve into the THanks/MRyan (that’s not a thing, Erin) trilogy of rom coms. Discussion points include: if one of you has been unconscious during the extent of your time spent with a person, probably you aren’t in love with that person; since the 90s, stalking has gotten a lot easier and impromptu air travel has gotten a lot harder; and we know quite literally nothing about the origin story of “You’ve Got Mail”, and yes, we did Google it later and discover just how wrong we were.

Podcast promo swap time! Remember Tim and Leon over at Yeah, G’Day? They’re funny, they’re Australian, and they’re a damn delight. If you aren’t listening to them, you should be.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 77: Birds Can’t Talk. (“Mazes and Monsters”)

Hey, everyone! Welcome back to THanksgiving Month! This week we decided, sort of at the last minute, to watch the 1982 made-for-TV movie “Mazes and Monsters”, based on the book of the same name. It was Mr. Hanks’s first leading role in a movie, and it was…something.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 76: Happy THanksgiving! (THanks Overview)

Hey, everyone! It’s November, which means it’s THanksgiving Month! Yes, yes, turkey and stuffing and all that, but also: Tom Hanks! Who doesn’t love Tom Hanks? Nobody, that’s who, because Tom Hanks is a national treasure.

View the music video for Carly Rae Jepsen’s I Really Like You here. It’s relevant, I promise.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 75: Podcasper the Pie-Throwing Ghost (Ghosts)

Hey, everyone! In our final week of Spooktober (not TM, we almost certainly accidentally stole this from Overdue and probably also a bunch of other people), we get super spooky and talk about ghosts. The good ones. The bad ones. The dessert-throwing ones. (Just kidding, those aren’t ghosts.)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 72: The Deathfast Club (“Detention”)

Hey, everyone! Last week we wrote a movie, this week we watched one. This movie was pitched to us as a horror movie involving time travel. One of those things is true. Strap into your magnetic alien-bear-time-machine, because this is one wild ride.

Christopher Meloni stars as Mikey Butts, Butt Judge; Derek gets a last name and is still totally doing it; Anna Kendrick gets annoyed; Joan Cusack gets a new butt; James gets a lesson in Spanx.

Episode 70: Hi, Chad! (“IT”: The Movie: The Second Adaptation of the Book by Stephen King)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 70: Hi, Chad! (“IT”: The Movie: The Second Adaptation of the Book by Stephen King)

Hey, everyone! This week, our good buddy and friend of the show Chad (hi, Chad!) joins us to discuss last week’s first-ever UFO Meetup and the movie we saw for it, “IT”: The Movie: The Second Adaptation of the Book by Stephen King. (Incidentally, happy birthday to said Mr. King, who turned 70 today, Thursday, September 21, which is the day I am writing this because I am ahead of the game.)

Spoilers abound in this one for the movie, and there is a point at which we tell you if you don’t want a spoiler for the book/the second part of the movie (which will be released in like a million years), to skip ahead 30 seconds. It’s really more like 15 seconds. For once, we OVERestimated how long we would talk about a thing instead of underestimating by about 43 minutes.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 68.5: I Am A Horse (James & Erin Write a Class/Outtakes Volume 5)

Hey, everyone! This week we had a plan for an episode, but decided in the end that we couldn’t make a full episode out of it, and also we really wanted next week’s episode to be number 69 (nice), so we decided to do a brief segment on the topic we were going to cover tonight, add in some outtakes, listen to Erin giggle like a maniac for about 4 full minutes, and call it a half-episode.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 67: The Movie: The Adaptation of The Book (“The Dark Tower”)

Hey, everyone! We saw a movie! It’s a movie that apparently none of the critics liked, but we went to see it anyway, because Stephen King. Did we like it? You’ll have to listen to the episode to find out! (But you can probably guess.) (But then you’ll have to listen to the episode to find out if you were right.)

Episode 64: James’s Unpopular Opinion Corner (“Fifty Shades of Grey”)

Hey, everyone! James watched a movie, and Erin has also seen the movie, so we wanted to talk about the movie! We also discuss potential UFO-themed Halloween costumes, and neither one of us can BELIEVE we forgot Derek and his oil and his gold Speedo and his “doing it”. (Heh. Doing it. There’s a lot of that in the movie James watched, amirite?)

Hey, everyone! From the weirdos who brought you “Redo Year’s Eve 1” and “How To Make Friends And Resurrect Your Pets”, a new romantic comedy starring some people who are not named Steve! “Time Travel Love Song” is about, well, time travel. And love. And songs. And text-to-speech programs?

Episode 56: Hi, Marc! (Again!) (OCD and Potpourri)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 56: Hi, Marc! (Again!) (OCD and Potpourri)

Hey, everyone! We sat down with Our Friend Marc again for a long and lovely conversation about obsessive-compulsive disorder and how it affects one’s approach to pop culture and fandom. We hit on a lot of topics during this chat, but in the end Marc ties it all up for us.

Episode 47: Hi, Nar! (Sherlock)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 47: Hi, Nar! (Sherlock)

Hey, everyone! This week we have a special guest, Papa Narwhals from Pokemon Go Radio! Erin has been listening to his show for some time now and tweeting at him incessantly until he responds, and she’s like a stray kitten–he gave her attention and now he can’t get rid of her. Nar joins us this week to discuss BBC’s Sherlock (be prepared for spoilers), but not until after we get him onboard the Stephen King train.

Episode 45: That Thing The Hammerhead Does (Female Leads and Love Interests)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 45: That Thing The Hammerhead Does (Female Leads and Love Interests)

Hey, everyone! This week we revisit the topic of female leads, particularly in movies. What makes them work or not work? Is Faye from That Thing You Do! a good female love interest, or is she basically just a prop in the story of Guy Patterson’s Rise To Fame?

We also fall down a rabbit hole of bad were-animal erotica. There is no ladder down here, folks. Someone please save us.

Thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”, as well as to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our most awesome logo.

Episode 41: Slideshow (Recapping Lost Episodes)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 41: Slideshow (Recapping Lost Episodes)

Hey, everyone! We’ve had some audio issues lately, and have lost a couple of really good episodes, so this week we go back and briefly recap those. Think of it like a slideshow, snippets of all the episodes you’ll never get to hear because technology hates us.

Thanks as always to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”, and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem on Twitter) for our most excellent logo.

Episode 40: Tapping Frustles (“Newsies: The Movie: The Musical: The Movie”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 40: Tapping Frustles (“Newsies: The Movie: The Musical: The Movie”)

Hey, everyone! Sorry we’re late this week; due to audio issues, we lost the episode we’d originally planned to post, so you get this one, which we recorded just last night!

We went to see a Broadway production of “Newsies” at the movie theatre (yup), and it was very different from the movie we grew up with! We do not refrain from spoilers in this episode, so if you have plans to see it yourself and want to go in with no knowledge of what was different and what stayed the same, hold off on this episode until after you’ve seen it.

Thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”, and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem on Twitter) for our awesome new logo, which may or may not have uploaded into iTunes and which you may or may not be looking at right now!

Episode 37: Bug In a Jar (“Waxwork II: Lost In Time”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 37: Bug In a Jar (“Waxwork II: Lost In Time”)

Hey, everyone! You know when you’re having a meal with someone and they say, “Oh my God, this is TERRIBLE, here, try it”? Well, that’s basically what we are doing to you this week, because we watched “Waxwork II: Lost In Time” and man, was it terrible; here, listen to us talk about it!

If ever there was an episode that brought the not-so-pop-culture to Unabashedly Obsessed, this is it. It’s a bad, BAD movie. But delightfully so? Sort of?

The theme song is a real gem, and we found a YouTube link of it for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5o8WBbUg4E

You’re welcome?

Thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”, which is a much better song than “Bug In a Jar”.

Episode 36: James and Erin Write a Movie (“Redo Year’s Eve 1”)

Hey, everyone! Did you ever wish you could go back in time over and over and over again until you manage to right every tiny wrong throughout your day, and also that you and everyone around you was named Steve? Well then boy, are you gonna love this movie.

Episode 34: Happy Brithday, Kiristy Swanson (Books/TV/Movie Adaptations)

Episode 34: Happy Brithday, Kiristy Swanson (Books/TV/Movie Adaptations)

Hey, everyone! Happy 2017! You know what’s great? When they take your favorite book/TV show/movie and turn it into a really good book/TV show/movie. You know what’s not great? When they turn it into a bad one.

Today we talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly adaptations of books to TV, books to movies, movies to TV, movies to books, TV to movies, and everything in between.

We also want to wish all of our listeners a happy holidays, whatever your holiday of choice may be–Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Candlenights, Yule, whatever you celebrate, we hope it’s a good one and that no one tries to blow up a building with you in it.

Episode 31: 2 Tangential 4 Television (Outtakes 2)

Hey, everyone! As you know, we talk a lot, and sometimes we get off on tangents that we decide don’t really fit in with the main episode, but we still like the chat and don’t want to totally toss it. And thus, our outtakes episodes are born.

Rescued from the cutting room floor: casting a “Somewhere In Time” remake; Erin dreams the first half of Cloud Atlas, starring Lance Bass and Anna Kendrick; Theo Rossi is super great; pop-punk, pop-PUNK, and POP-punk; what does a Snorlax feel like?; baby naming.

Episode 30: Night Shift Gets Cake (“Safety Not Guaranteed”)

Episode 30: Night Shift Gets Cake (“Safety Not Guaranteed”)

Hey, everyone! This week we watched the movie “Safety Not Guaranteed”, and tried to make sense of time travel once again. Side points: That scene in “Labyrinth” where Sarah tries to figure out which door to go through; a short story James has to go on another side point to explain; Erin draws a picture.

Episode 24: BOO! (Scary Movies)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 24: BOO! (Scary Movies)

Hey, everyone! In honor of All Hallows Eve, we talk about our favorite and least favorite scary movies, what does and doesn’t spook us, and we make some recommendations for you, the listener…all of which you’ve probably already seen but shhhhhh just pretend you haven’t.

Episode 23: The Secret (of Time Travel) (“Somewhere In Time”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 23: The Secret (of Time Travel) (“Somewhere In Time”)

Hey, everyone! This week, James and Erin watch the 1980 cinematic masterpiece “Somewhere In Time”, starring Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve. Once you get past how sad it is that Christopher Reeve died, it’s actually a pretty good movie. Well, no, it isn’t, it’s a terrible movie. But it’s a really good terrible movie. You know what? Just go watch it, you’ll see what we mean.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 19: James and Erin Write A Movie (How To Make Friends and Resurrect Your Pets)

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since we wrote a movie, and boy do we have a good one this time. It’s a coming-of-age story about bubbles and chinchillas, and Derek is back and he’s doing it, guys!

Special thanks to Emily R. for our title, and to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 18: Fandon Brandon ((Mostly) John Hughes Movies)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 18: Fandon Brandon ((Mostly) John Hughes Movies)

Hey, everyone! (Not everybody. Everyone.) This week we planned to talk about 80s movies, but then that pretty much turned into just John Hughes movies, and then we talked about some other movies that are not John Hughes movies, nor are they 80s movies. Because of course we do. Also, we talk about boobs a lot.

As a special bonus, we get to hear (very briefly) from BOTH of the Kristens in James’s life!

As always, epic thanks go out to Jamie Chahine for our epically amazing theme songs, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 14: Oh, Jeff Daniels (Harry Potter and MagiQuest)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 14: Oh, Jeff Daniels (Harry Potter and MagiQuest)

Hey, everyone! Did you know that Jeff Daniels is actually made of CGI?

This week we talk a lot about Jeff Daniels, who has nothing to do with our actual topic. The iTunes review buzzword is “wand”, and today the F stands for Fluppy Dogs, an obscure 80s cartoon that no one but Erin and some random person with a YouTube account seems to remember existed.

Thanks as always to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 10: Hi, Marc! (Movies, Collections, and Bad Dates)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 10: Hi, Marc! (Movies, Collections, and Bad Dates)

It’s a long one but a good one! James’s Friend Marc joins us for a lively discussion of movies, things we’ve collected in our lives, and our worst/most awkward dates. (Erin feels it important to note that at the time of this writing, Marc has still not rated or reviewed us on iTunes.)

Today the “F” stands for Failure (specifically Marc’s, to post a review) and the review buzzword is “engage”.

Special thanks to Jamie Chahine for the use of our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 8: The Fan Edition (Musical Numbers in Movies)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 8: The Fan Edition (Musical Numbers in Movies)

Hey everyone, and welcome to another episode of Unabashedly Obsessed. This week, we discuss one of James’s favorite things ever–musical performances in movies, not to be confused with movies that are musicals. Under discussion are That Thing You Do!, Pitch Perfect (1 and 2), Crossroads, and Empire Records. If you haven’t seen Crossroads, get on Netflix and watch it RIGHT NOW because Erin says to.

Special thanks to Jamie Chahine for the use of our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”
