Episode 142: Kids Always Think Farts Are Funny (“Hearts in Atlantis”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 142: Kids Always Think Farts Are Funny (“Hearts in Atlantis”)

Hey, everyone! It’s Amity’s Patreon anniversary–you may recall that last year she selected “The Lost Room” for us to watch, and that one was an excellent recommendation, so we were pretty stoked to dive into this year’s rec, the movie version of Stephen King’s “Hearts in Atlantis”, starring Anthony Hopkins. We’ve established before that movies are a good adaptation form for King’s novellas, and this one is no exception–a movie was exactly the right length to allow for a faithful adaptation.

Episode 138: Bleh, bleh! (Outtakes, Vol. 10)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 138: Bleh, bleh! (Outtakes, Vol. 10)

Hey, everyone! James had a family emergency and was out of town on our normal recording night, so we couldn’t do a PodCon2 recap like we’d planned, but don’t worry, you still get to hear our lovely voices. Probably more of Erin’s voice than you’d want, as she has discovered that if she doesn’t have a script or a partner, she sounds like a robot. Or a smooth jazz/soft rock radio station DJ. Or a…vampire?

Episode 127: THanksgiving 2, Week 1: Hi Again, Caitlin! (“The Green Mile”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 127: THanksgiving 2, Week 1: Hi Again, Caitlin! (“The Green Mile”)

Hey, everyone! Who here likes a nice clean segue? I hope you all do, because boy do we have one for you. We transition this week from All Hallows’ Steve into THanksgiving 2: Electric Hanksaloo (the jury is still out on which of us came up with that, but we both agree it is a bad name and we don’t know why we’re still using it), and we are joined once again by friend of the podcast and former guest Caitlin Kunkel to talk about The Green Mile, that unique piece of media that straddles the fence between Stephen King’s yard and Tom Hanks’s yard so beautifully.

Episode 125: All Hallows’ Steve Week 3: All About Rips (“The Langoliers”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 125: All Hallows’ Steve Week 3: All About Rips (“The Langoliers”)

Hey, everyone! This week Erin made (“made”) James read what is possibly her most favorite Stephen King book, “The Langoliers”–a book in which time travel is not what you might think, and a man sleeps in the back of a plane for absolutely no reason that we can figure out.

Stick around after the ending credits for the new trailer for Kids on Bikes!

Episode 124: All Hallows’ Steve Week 2: Hi, Amity! (“Castle Rock”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 124: All Hallows’ Steve Week 2: Hi, Amity! (“Castle Rock”)

Hey, everyone! This week we are joined by Amity from The Latecomers Podcast to discuss Hulu’s new-as-of-this-summer Stephen King-inspired show “Castle Rock”. Thank goodness Amity took really good notes because this show is…something. It sure is something.

Before you start listening, be aware there are just so many spoilers, and also brief mentions of suicide, murder, and abuse of the locking-someone-in-a-small-dark-space-for-years variety.

Episode 123: All Hallows’ Steve, Week 1: Flaming Arms (“Mr. Mercedes”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 123: All Hallows’ Steve, Week 1: Flaming Arms (“Mr. Mercedes”)

Hey, everyone! It’s the first episode of October, which we have decided this year to dub All Hallow’s Steve–that’s right, it’s a whole month of all Stephen King, all the time. (“How is that different from your normal material?” you may ask. It just is, okay? This month is ALL Stephen King. No Anna Kendrick or time travel or anything.) (That’s a blatant lie, we are absolutely going to talk about at least one of those things at least twice this month.)

But this week we tackle 2017’s AT&T production for DirecTV “Mr. Mercedes”. It’s a less-Kingian story (so far) that most people would expect, but that’s only because they haven’t gotten to the last book of the trilogy yet. It stars Brendan Gleeson’s delightful Irish accent, Mary Louise Parker, and a suuuuuuper messed up mother-son relationship that doesn’t involve either of those characters at all. Also, if you’re feeling frisky, go ahead and make a drinking game out of all the times Erin says “good-looking dude”, because she was even annoying herself with that one during editing.

Episode 122: 13/10, Would Munch (New Segments)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 122: 13/10, Would Munch (New Segments)

Hey, everyone! This week we decided to take a break from the more structured…structure…that we’ve been following of late, and just goof around for a bit. We ended up pitching each other different ideas for potential new segments, and occasionally wandering off topic, but we always bring it back around. Take a deep dive into young Erin’s psyche, hear James’s opinions on peanut butter, and join us for a blessedly cut-down-from-its-original-15-minutes Google search for a movie Erin vaguely recalls having seen a decade and a half ago.

Episode 115: Zombie Pennies (“Pet Sematary”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 115: Zombie Pennies (“Pet Sematary”)

Hey, everyone! Welcome to Auguest, the month where we have all guest episodes! Except, uh, this week, when we were SUPPOSED to have a guest episode but we had to publish it early due to unforeseen circumstances, so just pretend that three weeks ago you listened to this episode, and that now you’re listening to “Hi, Bill!” It’s like time travel! But possibly more complicated.

You know what else is complicated? Reanimating dead loved ones using an ancient Native American burial ground. (I am so good at segues!) This week we’re talking about Stephen King’s Pet Sematary (affiliate link), which is beautifully written and utterly horrifying.

Episode 103: Hi, Caitlin! (90% Stephen King, 10% Book Deals)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 103: Hi, Caitlin! (90% Stephen King, 10% Book Deals)

Hey, everyone! This week, we had the chance to sit down with the most excellent Caitlin Kunkel, co-founder of The Belladonna, a comedy and satire website consisting entirely of pieces written by women and other marginalized genders. It’s very, very good, and you should definitely go check it out.

But that’s not really what we talked to Caitlin about. Mostly we talked about Stephen King, because if there is someone out there who matches (and maybe even surpasses!) us in our unabashed obsession with Stephen King, it’s Caitlin. Spoilers for “The Stand” happen. Also for “Misery”.

We also talked about the book deal she recently landed, which is a really interesting conversation and she claims to only know enough about book publishing to fill 10% of an episode, but I think she was selling herself short, because she knows at least enough to fill 11% of an episode.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 101: Smells Like Reading(s) (Potpourri, Vol. 3)

Episode 92: The Best Stephen King Story Stephen King Never Wrote (“The Lost Room”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 92: The Best Stephen King Story Stephen King Never Wrote (“The Lost Room”)

Hey, everyone! Friend of the show Amity (hi, Amity!) from The Latecomers podcast and Podcasts Collected Presents upped her Patreon donation to the tier that lets her suggest something annually for us to watch and cover on the show. So we watched the 2007 SyFy Channel miniseries “The Lost Room” (Amazon affiliate link), and not to spoil anything, but it’s SUPER GOOD. Which isn’t surprising, Amity wouldn’t suggest something she thought we’d hate (probably) but we were both pleasantly surprised by just how much we enjoyed it.

Apologies for the handful of coughs that I couldn’t edit out; the weather in Virginia has been absurd this week and it’s messing with basically everyone. But we make it up to you by giving you a recipe for some really good chicken (we both made it the night after we recorded this and can confirm, it’s very good).

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 84: It’s Not ALL Stephen King (2017 In Books)

Hey, everyone! It’s the end of the year, and that means it’s time for us to talk about some books we read! As 2017 wraps up, we wish you all the happiest of new years, and hope that 2018 is good to each and every one of you.

Episode 73: Caution: Spoilers Ahead (“Gwendy’s Button Box”)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 73: Caution: Spoilers Ahead (“Gwendy’s Button Box”)

Hey, everyone! This week we read Gwendy’s Button Box, by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar. We also read some short stories by Mr. Chizmar so we’d have any idea what we were talking about when it came to what parts of the story were King-ian versus Chizmar-ian. We spoil a lot of stuff in this one, so if you have plans to read Gwendy, maybe do it before you listen (it’s a short book, we’ll wait).

The interview we reference can be found here.

Purchase a copy of “Gwendy’s Button Box” here and we’ll get a few deadly pennies from that transaction thanks to the Amazon Associates program.

Episode 70: Hi, Chad! (“IT”: The Movie: The Second Adaptation of the Book by Stephen King)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 70: Hi, Chad! (“IT”: The Movie: The Second Adaptation of the Book by Stephen King)

Hey, everyone! This week, our good buddy and friend of the show Chad (hi, Chad!) joins us to discuss last week’s first-ever UFO Meetup and the movie we saw for it, “IT”: The Movie: The Second Adaptation of the Book by Stephen King. (Incidentally, happy birthday to said Mr. King, who turned 70 today, Thursday, September 21, which is the day I am writing this because I am ahead of the game.)

Spoilers abound in this one for the movie, and there is a point at which we tell you if you don’t want a spoiler for the book/the second part of the movie (which will be released in like a million years), to skip ahead 30 seconds. It’s really more like 15 seconds. For once, we OVERestimated how long we would talk about a thing instead of underestimating by about 43 minutes.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 67: The Movie: The Adaptation of The Book (“The Dark Tower”)

Hey, everyone! We saw a movie! It’s a movie that apparently none of the critics liked, but we went to see it anyway, because Stephen King. Did we like it? You’ll have to listen to the episode to find out! (But you can probably guess.) (But then you’ll have to listen to the episode to find out if you were right.)

Episode 47: Hi, Nar! (Sherlock)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 47: Hi, Nar! (Sherlock)

Hey, everyone! This week we have a special guest, Papa Narwhals from Pokemon Go Radio! Erin has been listening to his show for some time now and tweeting at him incessantly until he responds, and she’s like a stray kitten–he gave her attention and now he can’t get rid of her. Nar joins us this week to discuss BBC’s Sherlock (be prepared for spoilers), but not until after we get him onboard the Stephen King train.

Episode 36: James and Erin Write a Movie (“Redo Year’s Eve 1”)

Hey, everyone! Happy 2017! You know what’s great? When they take your favorite book/TV show/movie and turn it into a really good book/TV show/movie. You know what’s not great? When they turn it into a bad one.

Today we talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly adaptations of books to TV, books to movies, movies to TV, movies to books, TV to movies, and everything in between.

Episode 33: Definitely Not Peen Scene (Favorite Books of 2016)

Hey, everyone, and welcome to our final episode of 2016! In general, this year should never have happened, but some good things did come out of it: we read some really good books! And some of them weren’t even by Stephen King! Allow us to tell you about them!

Episode 22: Big Important Media (Stephen King at the National Book Festival)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 22: Big Important Media (Stephen King at the National Book Festival)

Hey, everyone! A couple weeks ago James and Erin got media passes to the National Book Festival, where Stephen King was presenting. Tickets to his event were gone in seconds, but we are Big Important Media and we can make things happen! (As long as we hound people obsessively for two straight weeks until they give us what we want just to shut us up.)

Episode 21: B-I-N-G-ObGyn (Outtakes)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 21: B-I-N-G-ObGyn (Outtakes)

Hey everyone! Erin has been in Scotland for the past week so we weren’t able to record a brand-new episode for you, but that’s okay, because we still put together an episode for you! It’s shorter than usual and is made up of stuff we had to cut from other episodes to keep them from going too obscenely long. Or stuff that was so not relevant to the topic at hand and was easy to cut, so we did. Or, in one case, the only good parts of an otherwise not-very-good episode, which was when we learned that trying to record while in a car doesn’t really work for us. Apologies for the audio on those parts, cars are noisy. (Also apologies again for Erin’s weird intro audio, recording separately is not as awesome as recording together.)

Thanks to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 17: Canned Tuna Fish and Kirsty Swanson (Britney Spears(?), Music, and (Two Specific) Stephen King Books)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 17: Canned Tuna Fish and Kirsty Swanson (Britney Spears(?), Music, and (Two Specific) Stephen King Books)

Hey everyone! James and Erin have finally figured out what their most marketable skill as podcasters is, and it’s “getting off on tangents not remotely related to the topic they’ve chosen to discuss”. For example, today’s talking points are: Kristy Swanson vs. Kirsty Swanson; canned tuna fish; and music (specifically, Britney Spears music). The topic they are SUPPOSED to be talking about (and eventually get around to) is “Books They Are Currently Reading; Specifically, The Two Stephen King Books They Are Currently Reading.” Enjoy! (Spoiler Warning: There’s discussion of “Rose Madder” and “The Gunslinger”, with some minor spoilers, mostly of the latter.

Thank you as always to Jamie Chahine for our most excellent theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 15: Accio Accolades! (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 15: Accio Accolades! (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) (SPOILERS ABOUND!)

Hey, everyone! Um, If you don’t want spoilers for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”, don’t listen to this episode. No, really. We talk about ALL THE THINGS and if you listen and then get mad that we spoiled it, that’s on you, not us.

Unrelated, at the time of this posting, Anna Kendrick has still not taken Erin up on her offer of wine and best friendship, but the hope is still there that we can make the movie “Mistery” happen. Just gotta convince James to shed any fears he has of one of his idols possibly thinking he’s a stalker. It’s all right. Erin’s working on it.

Episode 7: Banana Fanna Fo Fodcast (TV)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 7: Banana Fanna Fo Fodcast (TV)

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another episode of Unabashedly Obsessed. This time, we talk about Stephen King (again) (because he’s the best), and television. James hates spoilers (no, really, he REALLY hates spoilers) and Erin creates a new reality show.

Special thanks to Jamie Chahine for the use of our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”

Episode 3: Stephen King : Sparkles : Quantum Leap (Time Travel)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 3: Stephen King : Sparkles : Quantum Leap (Time Travel)

In this episode you’ll learn why our Facebook group’s logo/icon/avatar (seriously, what do you call those things?) is the horse, and are let in on one of our favorite inside jokes to date. (Which is saying something, because we’ve got almost 20 years’ [holy cats that’s a lot of years] worth of inside jokes.) We also talk about time travel and stuff.

Special thanks to Jamie Chahine for the use of our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was a Ladder Down Here?”
